Re: Help! My child is severely constipated!
I know your dilemma - I wanted to "colon cleanse" my 7-year-old but couldn't do "adult" type remedies like enemas or
Epsom Salts or the colonics.
As far as the laxatives you've used, check if they contain senna. Although a natural ingredient, senna actually inhibits the muscles in the colon from pushing a bowel movement out. That creates a dependency on the product to eliminate.
This past summer I found a colon cleanser that is usable by kids. My daughter and I did it together. It's called WOW by Nutrafina and it is herbal and completely safe. You do want your child to be able to swallow a pill because there is cayenne in the WOW and it's nasty if you dump out the capsule (yes, we had to do that here).
In 5 days, not only had we had multiple bowel movements per day, we also started seeing evidence that her liver was being detoxified (my daughter has an inability to break down prescription meds in her liver, and her side effects from previous meds left after 5 days). The WOW has liver support herbs as well as colon cleansing herbs. All this adds up to great detoxification, good bms, a better-functioning liver, and purer blood as a result.
I'd be happy to talk to you more about this if you wish - we had such great success (actually, both of us did).
