Re: Bulging discs
I had this same problem about ten years ago. I finally had to resort to surgery. My legs were getting numb and my bladder was almost paralized. I went on with this bad back for 10 weeks in and out of bed. I was about 43 yrs. then. 53 now. When I first got the pain I was in and out of the hospital ER having pain shots. I went to the chiropractor, the massage therapist, and physical therapy. The most relief came from massage therapy. I don't know what they do differently today, but I felt that the exercizes made it worse. I have a feeling the exercizes are different in therapy now. My mother is just now starting back therapy for a similar problem. Anyways, to make a long story short, I will tell you that I did everything to avoid surgery. Well, out of desperation my husband drove me 4 hours away to Duluth Clinic and I had to be wheeled in, in a wheel chair. Well, I had the surgery the next day, I remember it was a Wednesday. I went home on Friday--pain GONE! I even shopped at a mall on the way home, can you believe? I never need a pain pill after. After all I had been through the healing was not bad compared to the pain I was in before. I would reccomend a GOOD neurosurgeon if he has to have it. Hopefully therapy will help and massage. Ice packs for inflammation, Heat later. Also, I went for physical therapy after and it was the best investment I ever made. My back is 95-100% better because of it. It did not work before, but made all the difference in the world after surgery. They had me lifting 50lbs at the end of 6 weeks. Good luck to your hubby.
