Sorry, it took so long to reply, I've been away.

Your friend hd a hard time with his death, it was very quick and it took him by surprise, he was hesitant to move forward. Within a week or so after his death, he came to you, to say good bye.
What I see is you thinking of him. Something or someone reminded you of him, and you hadn't thought of him in a long time. So, this should be easy enough to recall. This was him. He did move on when he finished making the rounds, saying his good byes and taking of unfinished bussiness to his best abilty in that ghost state. He is now doing just fine.
