Although there may be other influences, in most women preterm labor (a Vata imbalance) is caused by irregular bowel functions, which in turn affect menstruation before pregnancy and the position and performance of the uterus. The liver and right kidney also play a direct role in the normal development of womb and the fetus. To prepare for an uneventful full term, it is important to have the main organs of elimination (liver, kidneys, and colon) in top shape. They should be thoroughly cleansed, and diet should support one's body type requirements (see Timeless Secrets of Health & Rejuvenation). A high protein diet during pregnancy can lead to major blood circulation problems and preterm labor. The fetus doesn't require protein concentrated foods to grow, not during and after it is born (hence the tiny fraction of protein in breast milk). A menstruating woman eliminates excessive proteins via the blood, but this option is not available to her once pregnant. Hence, the excessive protein acumulates in the basal membranes of the blood vessel walls (see Timeless Secrets about details), and clogs up the lymphatic vessels. This can cause not only preterm contractions, but eventually also menstrual contractions or cramps when not pregnant.
