Re: Hi icky, thanks for your honest posts
U.S. National Institutes of Health
"What Is Acne?
Acne is a disorder resulting from the action of hormones on the skin's oil glands (sebaceous glands), which leads to plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly called pimples or zits."
The Mayo Clinic
"Whiteheads: These are created when the openings of hair follicles become clogged and blocked with oil secretions and dead skin. Blackheads: These are similar to whiteheads, but are open to the skin surface and darken."
Harvard School of Medicine
"The blocked, oil-filled follicle then causes the bacteria normally in the hair follicles to multiply. This leads to inflammation, redness and the formation of pimples (pustules)."
Evidently these three premier medical organizations have it all wrong. Per the poster above, clogged blackheads and whiteheads are "baby worms poking out of the skin."
That's the amusing thing about message boards. In addition to routinely amateurish advice, one comes across downright freakish ideas as well. Who needs "Seinfeld" when you can cruise the message boards for humor!
