Six Quotes About Courage
"Brave men are all vertebrates. They
have their softness on the surface
and their toughness in the middle.
But cowards are all crustaceans;
their hardness is all on the cover,
and their softness is inside."
-- G.K.Chesterton --
.........
"A really brave person is he who says, 'What has happened, has happened; what I am going through, I
shall rise above; and what will come, I shall meet with courage."
-- Hazrat Inayat Khan / THE HEART OF
SUFISM --
.........
"Belinda was as brave as a barrel full of bears,
And Ink and Blink chased lions down
the stairs,
Mustard was as brave as a tiger in a
rage,
But Custard cried for a nice, safe
cage."
-- Ogden Nash / CUSTARD THE DRAGON -

Back in 1940, very early in WWII,
the allied armies were driven out of
France. After Dunkirk, it looked like Hitler and his Nazi armies
could conquer England whenever they
chose to. And then Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister, went on the radio, and
spoke these inspiring words to his
countrymen and the world:
"We shall go on to the end. We shall
fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight
with growing confidence and growing
strength in the air; we shall defend
our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall
fight in the hills, we shall never
surrender!"
-- Winston Churchill, 1940 --

The final two quotes about Courage
were spoken by two young girls of my
acquaintance. Mika Murakami was a
student of mine. She died of Lupus
just two weeks before her 12th birthday. Lisa Goldemberg was the only daughter of a dear friend. Lisa
was killed in an auto accident.
Here's what both girls said when they were very young:
"Good luck, bad luck, or no luck,
I believe in trying."
-- Lisa Goldemberg, age 6 --
.......
"I have the POWER in myself, I have
the STRENGTH in myself, and I definitely have the COURAGE in myself."
-- Mika Murakami, age 8 --
Rest In Peace, my little friends,
Rest In Peace.
