The Mount Everest of Now
The Mount Everest of Now
The Mount Everest of Now
by Vicki Woodyard
Plant your flag on the Everest of the living moment. Nothing is harder to do and nothing will give you more satisfaction. The winds of emotion are blowing blinding memories into your face. The icy chill of self-condemnation and self-doubt are freezing your breath and you gasp for air. Persevere.
The inspiration found in the living moment will breathe for you until you can adjust to the oxygen of always. Your ties to the past and future will seemingly be too heavy for you to carry up the mountain....and they are. So at some point you must jettison personal experience and surrender to what is true.
The passion for breaking free of the past and thus breaking free of pain will be your guide up the slope of memory. Hold this passion and carefully plant yourself on the rock of reality. It will hold you. There will be no rockslide or avalanche.
Congratulations! You have made it to the moment intact. Stand tall. Take a breath of fresh air. This is a new day. Look around with eyes open and incredulous. There is spaciousness and beauty called the Self that you are...that we all are. Wholeness spreads out before you and surrounds you. The victory is yours and yet it is not yours, for it is unattached to any body or mind. It just is.
This process can take place thousands of times a day as you are willing to surrender your ideas of how life should be and just be life. "Just being" is the ascent up the mountain of the moment. Never easy... always breathtakingly worthwhile. The National Geographic of the Spirit, if there were such a thing, would feature you and your climb in an eight-page spread. Look at yourself... you are beautiful. You are true and wise and healed.
Now that you know that you can make this trek, teach others how to make it. Teach it by being it, for you are the living moment. You are the inner Everest that symbolizes your own inner freedom. You are the Sir Edmund Hillary of your own mountain of emotions. How can this be so? It is so because your emotions and your Self are one thing. Consciousness reveals this to you, but only as you begin and continue in your climb. The secret is never revealed to the one stuck at the base of the mountain of feelings and thoughts. You must actively pursure your own freedom.
I have climbed this mountain of pain innumerable times and I used to think that I had to climb it on my own; that is, by using my thoughts and feelings. No--they are the false weights that must be jettisoned. After you have let go of your personal feelings about any situation and chosen to enter the living moment, a deep fear will come over you. The winds of doubt will whip you senseless and the way of the world will call to you to retreat to the safety of memory. Don't go. Don't go.
Keep entering the now--the perfect flow of the universe. God Himself is your guide. The God within knows how to get you into the living moment. Indeed, that is where He wants and wills you to be. It is exciting and inspiring. The unknown mount called the Now is waiting for you. Climb on.
