Hey guys - the 'broth' in Starkist does not contain any hydrolyzed proteins! Starkist responded to me today:

Dear Bob,


The purpose of the vegetable broth is to enhance the flavor of the tuna
and to reduce the "fishy" taste. Vegetable broth has been used in StarKist
Tuna since the early 1980's. We purchase vegetable broth in a dry format.
The vegetables are cooked as part of our supplier's process. Vegetable
broth is added to all StarKist Tuna varieties except for the Naturally Low
Sodium Tuna (White and Light) and the Gourmet Choice Tuna Fillets.

The vegetable broth used is made from dehydrated vegetables as determined
by FDA standards. The broth must consist of two or more of the following:
beans (including soybeans), cabbage, carrots, celery, garlic, onions,
parsley, peas, potatoes, green or red bell peppers, spinach or tomatoes.

We recommend for those folks who need to avoid certain ingredients that
they stick with StarKist Low Sodium Tuna (available in white or light), or
our Gourmet Choice Tuna Fillets. Neither of these varieties have vegetable
broth added.

As you can see, there is no hidden MSG, yeast extract or hydrolyzed
product.
