urinary tract infections

My mother gets them constantly and went to the doctor and found out she has a blockage somewhere in her tract. They put a stint in to help but she still feels horrible! Could it be stones from the kidney? They want to operate next on her kidney. I'm not sure what they are planning yet. I need some advice.
