I don't know if anyone's still reading this thread, but I'm doing the lemonade fast for the second time now, and I'm using blackstrap molasses because I've been on a low-sugar diet for many months and didn't want to jump right into maple syrup. BUT what I have done is mixed in just a bit of maple syrup to provide flavor balance.
The resulting lemonade is a little darker and heavier than the maple syrup version, but it has a little more light flavor than the strictly blackstrap molasses version.
As I have read numerous places regarding Sugar substitutes, they always taste better in combination.
(Though I must admit, I'm crazy for the cayenne, so that could be influencing my taste buds!)
