Cholesterol and heart attacks

Seeing a correlation between high levels of blood cholesterol and increased attacks does not mean cholesterol is a cause.

Is it the oxidative stress which increase oxidized cholesterol which make up the plaque?

Is is the body which response to something by increasing its cholesterol production?

Cholesterol is a mild antioxidant. Low cholesterol also means more infections, so maybe the cholesterol is elevated to protect the body.
