***High Triglyceride (1039 MG/DL)***

Received my blood work today. My cholesterol was 240. This is the first time I have ever had High Cholesterol. My HDL was 23 and my LDL could not be determined due to the high Triglyceride level (1039). I remember always having a high Triglyceride level (usually around 700-800) but my cholesterol was either borderline or under. This is from periodic, US Navy "check-ups." I'm 5'11" and 220lbs but I do not look "Fat." I used to work out with weights and still fairly muscular. For the most part, my diet is more Japanese than American. I now have a slight "belly"...well, 38" waist and I'm 44 yrs old, if any of this really matters. The doctors never had more than a slight concern for the high Triglyceride levels until now. What could be wrong with me? How can I get the Triglyceride level down?
I know this is a long post but, now, I'm a bit worried!
Thanks in advance,
ODS
