Fellini's '8 1/2'
For those of you that are interested in different states of consciousness told in poetic black and white, this movie is a must!
It's been my all time favourite movie for about 17 years now. Each time I see it, I see something more.
The subconscious, conscious and super-conscious...memories, dreams, imagination. What is Real, what is Ideal?
Last night I watched some of the extras on the DVD (unfortunately most of them were in a foreign language with no subtitles! weird) including an interview with the Italian cinematographer....wow! He spoke about the movie being about the three states of consciousness and how the deeper you delve into your subconscious, the higher up you can explore your super-conscious. Fascinating.
Watch out for the mind reading: Asa Nisi Masa scene.
It was never revealed why the nonsensicle sentence was chosen (it was a word from his childhood in the movie)...but if you take away the 'sa' 'si' and 'sa'....you have the word...ANIMA. (Jungian term for the 'inner female' within every Male)
The movie isn't for everybody (of course...what movie is?) but for those of you interested in this kind of thing, it will be a treat.
