for dried herbs, we presume mother nature knows why its being regrown each season (although home grown/gently dried herbs can retain properties for 2-3 years, especially properly stored cool and dark in glass or ceramic roots and barks), but tinctures, while they don't spoil, do have a most potent time frame. Most herbalists don't use tinctures older then 2-3 years, although 5-7 years is quoted for some....
