I am truly flabbergasted that johng would say its safe for a type I diabetic to stop their insulin - and he will not find a conventional medic to agree with him. Fine for him to take the risk but would he bear any of the responsibility for deaths from stopping insulin. Or would that be their tough luck as he seems to imply?
Physicians actually have to take responsibility for the quality of advice they give patients. They can't claim that free speech allows them to say whatever crackpot theory is the flavour of the month. They tell the patient that comes in with a diabetic ketoacidosis that insulin will keep them alive because the patient's death will be on their conscience otherwise.
Have you ever seen the dramatic turnround that insulin produces in a patient in DKA johng?
