Mardi Gras

The deeper into the southern US you go this time of year, you will, no doubt, get caught up in the Mardi Gras spirit. There are constant parades with people in costumes riding on floats throwing beads, moon pies and candy. We will just about do anything to catch our prizes! It's so much fun.

There are many parties (balls) this time of year. There are "king cakes." Years ago, a host would have a Mardi Gras party in their home and bake a king cake. A baby would be placed inside the cake. Whoever got the baby in their slice of king cake would be the next party host.

Next Tuesday is "Fat Tuesday," which will be the grand finale. It's a major holiday! (It's really a day of rest after all the parties! Ha)

Then comes Ash Wednesday and the good Catholics will go to church and begin giving something up for Lent.

Just thought I would share a little something about my beloved south....
