Skin brushing with a tan?, And making a tan last as long as possible?

Hey Guys,
Now that the summer is here I am beggining to get a tan, but I am hesitant to continue my skin brushing because it seems like it might hurt a little bit with the tan and it seems like it will get rid of the tan very fast. Do any of you have experience with this? And also, do any of you have any tips or hints on how to make a tan last as long as possible. I defiatnely do not want to put on those lotions they sell in the store with tons of crap in them. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
