Liver/spleen supporting herbs/supplements/diet
Hiya Madelle! :)
Liver/spleen supporting herbs/vits/diet:
Both www.liverdoctor.com and www.sensiblehealth.com has good guidelines on a liver-supporting diet - what to aviod, basically.
Here's what it says at sensiblehealth:
> "Foods that weaken the liver, spleen, and kidneys
> should be avoided. They include: white flour, white
> sugar, deep fried foods, caffeine, chocolate, all
> citrus fruits, tomato, banana, cold foods, cold
> drinks
> and salad (raw vegetables)."
(I have raw salads several times a week but avoid all the others as much as possible. I cheat on white flour as I love to bake LOL!)
Liver supporting herbs/supplements include:
Milk Thistle
Bupluerum (really gets rid of fat)
Dandelion
Chinese Gentien
Coptis - increases bile
Try to get an herbal compound with 2 or more, as herbs work best synergistically
MSM (small dosages as it acidifies the blood)
B vitamin complex (all the B's help catobolize various things)
Lecithin - really helps take cholesterol/fats out of the bloodstream.
Excellent references/products
www.liverdoctor.com - totally explains anatomy of liver, how to eat, how it de-toxes.
www.sensiblehealth.com - explains liver management and has herbal products
planetary formula's bupluerum liver cleanse - good herbal compound available at most health food stores. White bottle with blue label.

A good basic plan, once you're done with your intitial series of liver flushes, is to do at least one
Liver Flush every six months as maintenence.
Follow every flush and series of flush with liver-supporting herbs, just take the bottle's recommended dosage basically until done, or for a month to two months. You really don't want to take most liver herbs for more than two months, as they (especially milk thistle) rearrange liver cells enough to potentially cause cancer.
Before a flush, go off the herbs and give your liver a break. Just take things to dissolve stones or increase bile, like Gold Coin Grass and Coptis.
Hope that helps! :)
