A piece of work that compels, provokes, convicts, nurtures, changes, so many seems pretty God-sent to me!

Do you also mean a piece of work that oppresses and is used to condone the killing of others? The bible has been responsible for more deaths in the history of worldkind than any other book. Up until less than 100 years ago it was responsible for the killing of thousands of African Americans (slaves obey your masters) and it has been used for centuries to defend the notion of Manifest Destiny, again slaughtering the Native Peoples, slavery, and the oppression of women.

I am sorry, but this hardly inspires me.
