I agree! Check the scriptures on everything.

However when it comes to the church, I'm afraid the "chain of command" isn't doing anything to protect us except making the umbrella smaller and smaller with orders, and doctrine.

Acts 20:28
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

I believe this is directly referencing pastors, deacons and elders. Advising them it is their duty to watch over the flock, in an earthly manner. But in most churches it has become instilling man's doctrine instead of watching over the flock to keep scriptures true, and the Christian uplifted and living by the Spirit of God.
