Why not antibiotics before root canal removal?

I am having two root canal teeth removed this Monday, my dentist thinks one may be infected so he recommended, for three preceeding days and probably afterwards, 250 mg of penicillin. I've seen on this list you may not want to take Antibiotics . Can anyone explain the reasoning? I do not take Antibiotics very often, have not taken any in years.
