I was just watching on T.V. today on the USA channel, and the ending just gets me every time. When Wallace endures all that torture and he's told if he would just cry out "mercy," he would not have to suffer the torture. The crowd at first wants blood but in the end they want him to cry out mercy, even Wallace's own companions (can not do anything but be bystanders at this time) want him to cry out "mercy." Wallace struggles to utter some words. Then the crowd is silenced. And he cries out not mercy, but "Freedom!" That is such a beautiful scene, and it touched me yet again watching it on tv today.
