04/3/02 Blind complacency "Is it any wonder that there is now such anti-American fury across the region?"

Maybe that's what Bush WANTS. Maybe Bush NEEDS anti-American fury.

The strategic situation for the United States Government has not changed. The United States Government is still hopelessly bankrupt. The United States Government is still looting Social Security and playing accounting games to try to hold things together. The United States Government still has a huge debt problem and a population unconvinced that they should have to pay it. The United States Government still sees in the conquest and control of the Middle East and Caspian Sea oil fields the means to reverse the balance of trade and get out of the mess the government itself has created (not to mention making a few bucks in weapons sales along the way).

The problem is that American support for invasions of other people's lands has cooled since 9-11 and all but vanished entirely in other nations. The reason is simple. Despite the best efforts of media propagandists and PR operatives prowling the internet message boards, the general public has become aware that the evidence that linked 9-11 to Arabs appears to have been manufactured while evidence that points in a "different direction" has been classified. Even the anthrax letters, originally presumed to be from Arabs turned out to come from a "different direction". This has raised suspicions that the American people are victims to a monstrous hoax, along the lines of the Lavon affair or Operation Northwoods.

But the US Government still sees war for the oil as its salvation.

Documents declassified in May 2000 confirm that not only did FDR know that the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor but that he had spent nearly a year angering the Japanese and maneuvering them into a position where they felt they had no option but to attack the US Fleet at Pearl Harbor. As is reported in Robert Stinnett's book, "Day of Deceit", and at web sites, FDR followed a plan put together by ONI Lt. Cmdr Arthur H. McCollum, an 8 step plan to provoke such an attack, as FDR's "back door" into war against Hitler, a war that few Americans wanted or supported. The 8 step plan worked, Japan did attack, FDR told everyone it was a big surprise, and America went off to a war it had not wanted to be a part of.

So, here we are again. The US Government sees a war of conquest for the world's major oil resources as the best way out of the financial mess that it is in. The fury and lust for revenge for 9-11 has cooled, mostly because the public is no longer sure that their fury is aimed at the real masterminds of the attacks on the World Trade Towers. Bush and Cheney tried to link the lust for revenge to conquest of the oil just a little too quickly and they attracted attention to that linkage. The public is suspicious of the US Government's motives and rightly so.

So, what's a bankrupt and morally corrupt government to do? Like FDR, the thinking appears to be that if the American people cannot be persuaded to attack the target, trick the target into attacking America.

This may well be why the Bush administration is continuing to sign the checks for Israel's genocide against the Palestinians, to push the Arab nations into a corner where they have no choice but to strike back, then claim that America has been attacked (possibly even set off a few staged bombings) and then invade the oil.

Heck, it worked before. Why not try it again? Right?
