Re: Gum Disease

I had a dentist tell me that too once. It scared me so bad I went home and immediately started a strict regimen of twice daily brushing with a good electric toothbrush and nightly flossing. Whenever I'm tired and thinking of falling into bed without brushing and flossing I remember that horrible word "scaling." Six months later I went back for a cleaning and my teeth were so improved by then it wasn't neccessary. My teeth are now in such good shape that I only go in for cleaning every eighteen months to two years. I don't think scaling benefits anybody but the dentist.

Here's the bad news. Bad teeth and bad gums are caused primarily by a bad diet. You may be young and able to eat junk food day and night and still be in reasonable good health. You might think, as I did when I was young, that you have plenty of time to give up the junk before it starts to ruin your health. And if you're very lucky you MAY get away with it. BUT it will most definitely ruin your teeth. The years of eating crap and having an acidic body will always affect your teeth.

And the real problem is that you don't realize it until one day the dentist says, "Buddy, you need 4 fillings today." And at the next checkup, "Buddy, you got another 3 cavities, and one of your old fillings is broken, looks like we've got to do a root canal on it." And then you realize it's too late to heal those teeth and you're looking at a lifetime of shelling out mega bucks just so you look presentable and can eat.

Krispy Kremes aren't worth it, my friend!

OK, off the soapbox and back to your question. Yes, they say water piks are good, especially if you have deep pockets and places where you can't floss. Another good thing is after you brush your teeth go back and brush your gums to stimulate the blood circulation. Also, I've read good things about xylitol tooth products and you may want to look into Colloidal Silver or something like oregano oil. Good luck, I know what a shock it is to find out your dentist is an uncaring, uninformed idiot.
