as far as I know, salt per se is neutral. That is, it's not acidic. I do not know what effect it will have after it gets into your body.

Salt can certainly kill germs or suppress germs at a high concentration. Pickling is a way to preserve veggies, but it wont work against 100% bacteria. Some bacteria might survive even at relatively high concentration of salt.
