Re: Niacin

niacin is safe to take - it is just a b vitamin.

It does have side-effects, specifically it causes flushing. There are 2 types of niacin - regular and no-flush/niacinomide. You want the regular kind, because the whole point of taking it before the bath is to flush.

100mg is quite a lot, but it should be ok. I've got 100mg too. You might like to start out on a smaller dose at first though, because the "flushing" can be dramatic. Can you break it in half?

The flushing effect varies markedly, and I haven't found out exactly why. Sometimes I get a huge flush, other times nothing.

I suspect if you take it on an empty stomach (as you should) you get a big effect, but if you take it on a full stomach then you don't get nearly as much flushing.

During the "flush" the blood rushes to the surface of your skin. You go red all over. Don't be alarmed! Also you may get a prickly feeling over your skin. The flushing lasts about 15 minutes or so.
