How SWF works, and why you can't drink seawater

I had this Eureka realisation this morning. Salt water flushes are basically the equivalent of sea-water (although quite as strong). They have the same effect as drinking sea-water, which is why you should never drink sea-water! Bingo.

Remember all those stories you read as a child where the hero would be on a raft in the ocean and was dying of thirst but couldn't drink sea-water?

Well the SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) is the same thing. It goes through the body without being absorbed, and in fact sucks the moisture out of you. Thats why you can't drink sea-water - it will cramp and dehydrate you and kill you in no time.
