Einstein called J.C. Maxwell the father of modern physics. Maxwell discovered the electromagnetic spectrum and used math to predict the discovery of x-rays, gamma rays, and their siblings. Of course all important discoveries are at first considered ridiculous. I heard that the shamans of the "New World" had to teach their people how to see Magellan's ships because they were too big. True or not, it illustrates a point. We have to learn how to see new possibilities, even visionaries have to force themselves to look past the facade of the usual to see the real potential.

Maxwell also said we could get around the 2nd law of thermodynamics, using a special device inside a tank of air. Physicists called this "Maxwell's Demon" so they could spend the next 150 years arguing about demons in air tanks and not address the simple question of real hardware that could accomplish a specific task. Regarding such hardware, the same thing has been done with steam boilers since 1858 when Giffard patented an injector that put cold water into a hot, high pressure boiler without a pump. Years after the injector was incorporated into mundane industrial applications, skeptics still argued that it was impossible. So Maxwell's Demon, it turns out, is the Bernoulli Effect, which allows us to convert pressure into velocity and back again, so we can put low pressure air into a high pressure tank.

It has been pointed out that Maxwell's Demon is not in violation of the 2nd law, because the Earth's atmosphere is continuously replenished with energy by the sun, and is not a closed system. Compressed air is solar energy. How do we learn to use it that way? Where is the shaman of the air? I call it Maxwell's Demon, and it is loose on the Earth: just an idea, but skeptics beware. Ideas can take on a life of their own, and it is impossible to not learn new tricks on this planet. This planet is set up that way.
