judges overstep their authority... AA is a voluntary... non profit organization... and shouldn't have to endure the harrassment by the courts sentencing people to AA for offenses committed while under the influence... i don't think it does many of them much good to be sentenced to AA... and i for one would like to see it stopped...
i had a brother-in-law once that lost his drivers liscense for driving under the influence... he was sentenced to go to AA meetings for one year... which he did religiously... i happen to know because i drove him to meetings... after the one year was up and he got his liscense back he quit going to meetings and went back to drinking...
i think the state (in my state/county at least)now has a drug and alcohol abuse center that these offenders are sentenced to... what's so awful about that is that they teach from the "Alcoholics Anonymous" book... aint that a hoot... but still i guess it's better that way...because the state gets to make more profit from these offenders... the people runing the abuse
centers probably don't mind at all if the offenders continue to drink.... it gives them job security...
