also trying to gain weight

firstly, isn't it annoying when hefty people (who I envy) say things like "I wish I had your problem!"

Anyway, after 8 years of trying to gain weight, I've started to see a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I've gained about 10 lbs over 4 months, which would be amazing if I hadn't just lost those 10 lbs before starting treatment... so now I feel like I'm back at my skinny baseline. Anyway, the main differences I feel are that my sleep is WAY more consistant, and my digestion is much much better. I used to have really awful cramping after eating. I hadn't realized that a person should feel better AFTER eating... I always felt sleepy. And I also always felt COLD -- exept in the afternoons, when I felt HOT! How annoying! Anyway, my body temperature is more even and food gives me energy. Nice.

My doctor is very nice... she gives me a powder that I mix with hot water to make a tea. I do that twice a day. The powder is a blend of herbs -- One for the morning and one for night time.

I like seeing her because I just got sick of trying to figure everything out on my own. Now I just hand my problems over to her and let her figure them out. I'm in British Columbia, Canada, where we have a registration system for Chinese medicine, which ensures that she has been fully trained and written the 3 qualifying exams. I don't know how I would feel about it if we didn't have this system. Then it would just be the word of the doctor. Anyway, hope this is helpful to someone.

Oh, she tried acupuncture on me for about a month, but it wasn't useful, so she switched to herbs which seem to be making a difference.

Has anyone else tried Chinese medicine, or maybe Ayurveda? I tried Ayurveda, but it didn't seem to help. Maybe it was just the doctor, who I heard bad things about later.

ta.
