Herpes dating sites harmful?

I recently read an article online describing that the concept of a herpes dating site is actually quite harmful. The article explains that sexually active individuals with different strains of the virus could potenticially make their sypmtoms worse. Does anybody know if this is true?

The ironic part about the whole thing is that my doctor suggested that I date somebody with the same infliction.
