GET THE FLU, NOT THE SHOT

This title may look backwards to everyone reading it, but before you phone the newspaper and point out the obvious blunder let me explain. This is MY slogan for this flu season. I’m sure it won’t be as successful as the “Get the Shot, Not the Flu” propaganda that sways many but hey, I’m going to give it a SHOT.

If you do a little research into the flu vaccine, (or a lot, if you have time) you will find out these two things: It isn’t as effective as THEY claim, and it’s dangerous (has side effects).

The scenario plays out like this: Experts choose (with the accuracy of a psychic hot line) the strain of influenza THEY GUESS will be the one to hit us. They might get the right one, they might not. (Kind of like…you might win the lottery, you might not.) It’s pretty iffy. They make the vaccine, and then influence you (I prefer the term brainwash) by media, TV, Print Ads, your doctor gently pushing you to get the shot etc.

You might say “But it’s free, and the Government has our best interests at heart”. (If you can honestly use “free” and “government” in the same sentence, then I have some ocean front property in Idaho for you). What you need is a bill for every “free” shot, Kleenex, or smile your doctor gives you. You would be absolutely shocked to know what the taxpayer dishes out for “free”. The advertisements, and your doctors time spent swaying you to get the shot, and the little piece of cotton used to wipe the injection site are all very expensive, and you pay for it along with the “free shot”.

Then there are the side effects. They include muscle weakness/soreness, nausea, vomiting, headache, fever, loss of appetite, itching in impossible to reach areas, and salivating when someone rings a bell (Ok, I made the last two up, but the others sound a lot like the flu to me). Those with allergy to eggs are told to avoid the flu shot because it is propagated on chicken embryo cells. (Are we not guinea pigs?)

Then how about these tasty ingredients in the vaccine: Formaldehyde (a known cancer causing agent), Thimerosal (a mercury derivative and a known neurotoxin and recently removed from eye drops), and Aluminum (a metal found in abundance in the brains of Alzheimer victims). Alzheimer’s has dramatically increased in the elderly over the last twenty years. Raise your hand if you can tell me why. But don’t worry, your doctor and the Health Department will assure you there is no link. Come on, when has a drug ever harmed or killed anyone and been taken off the market. The answer: Thousands of times with hundreds of different drugs.

Well, I doubt I will be as successful in my campaign as the government Health dept. is in theirs. But my campaign is to inform you that there is another side to the flu shot story “they” are not telling us. You can’t make an informed choice if you aren’t given all the information. The other part of the campaign is to share how to avoid the flu altogether. There are some things that every person from young to old can do to strengthen their immune systems, make themselves more resistant to the flu and other bugs, and take the danger out of the flu if you get it. You’ll get that info in part two.
