Re: arm weakness from flu shot

My husband and I both received the flu shot on Oct. 29/04. Within 5 to 10 minutes after receiving the injection, both my husband and I had pain in that arm. It was extremely painful for about 1 month. My husband started physiotherapy in Nov./04 and they told us to take 2 Advil with every meal and 2 8 hour extra strength tylenol at night. He finished his physiotherapy around the middle of Dec./04, his arm now only bothers him when he lifts something heavy. I started physiotherapy Dec. 16/04 and went until the end of March 2005. I then went to an orthopedic surgeon who gave me a cortisone steroid injection in my arm, that was on April 12, 2005. The pain in my arm was gone, although my arm was still weak. On May 10, 2005, the pain came back,(7 months after receiving the flu shot) I started physiotherapy again on May 25, 2005. I am receiving ultrasound treatments, tenes treatment, some exercises in the pool, some dry land exercises and then I get in the hot tub. I went back to my orthopedic surgeon on June 6/05, at which time I received another cortisone steroid shot. Right now I am still in pain from the steroid shot, but hopefully the pain will go away. I am to return to physiotherapy again on Friday, June 10/05. Besides my husband and myself I have located two other women who have had pain in their arm after receiving the flu shot as well. The orthopedic surgeon told my that they have seen approximately 15 people with these symptoms. I believe the nurse who injected my husband and I put it in the wrong place. My shot was in the back of my shoulder, my husband's was on the front of his shoulder. We received the flu shot 5 or 6 other years and didn't have any problems and they were injected in our upper arm. One of the other ladies also received hers in the shoulder. This is the most painful experience I have ever had in my life. It has cost us $1330.00 in physiotherapy so far. I am in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. I am trying to collect names of people who have had similar problems. I want to find out what happened, was it contaminated, or were we injected in the wrong location. Have you heard from anybody else? Is your arm better or are you still pursuing what happened.
