Drugs to Avoid
Drugs To Avoid!
Randall Neustaedter OMD
If you or your family members (or patients) are taking or considering any of the following commonly used drugs, I would recommend you think about alternatives. These drugs are unsafe and usually totally unnecessary. Valid, safe, effective alternatives exist.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
Conventional hormone therapy has proven to be one of the greatest health risks of all for women. No one should be taking these drugs, which increase a woman's risk of breast cancer, heart disease, and strokes. Seek out care from a qualified nutritionally-oriented practitioner. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are extremely effective at managing the symptoms of menopause and perimenopause (including hot flashes, mood changes, and sleep disturbance).
Oral Contraceptives (OC)
The longer you take them, the greater the risk of breast cancer, blood clots, and heart disease. Don't do it, especially for extended periods of time. Use barrier methods of birth control (condom, diaphragm, cervical cap).
Antidepressants
For most people with mild to moderate
Depression many alternatives exist to the increasingly prescribed SSRI antidepressants (the Prozac-Paxil group). These drugs have significant side effects, including an increased risk of suicide. Use nutritional approaches, stress reduction techniques, exercise, and natural treatments with homeopathy and herbs.
Cholesterol lowering drugs
The Statin drugs (Lipitor, Zocor, Pravachol) are dangerous. They lower levels of Co Q 10, which increases your risk of heart disease, and they tend to lower levels of good cholesterol, HDL. No one should take these drugs until trying other alternatives. Side effects include memory loss, nerve pain, liver damage, muscle disease, and deaths. There are excellent natural ways to bring down total cholesterol levels while raising HDL levels. Use diet (low carbohydrate, high protein and fat), herbs, supplements, and exercise to accomplish this.
Antacids and acid inhibitors
Your digestive system needs stomach acids to digest food. If you block the stomach's ability to produce acid, you create digestive system disturbances. Acid stomach, ulcers, and reflux (heartburn) are often treated with gastric acid suppressing drugs like Prevacid and Prilosec (benzimidazoles) and antacids like Pepcid and Maalox. But much safer treatments exist. Healing the inflammatory condition and promoting proper stomach function will solve the problem. Homeopathy and Oriental medicine both provide effective treatment for these digestive system imbalances.
Vaccines
Acute childhood infections that confer lifelong immunity (measles, whooping cough, chickenpox) are being replaced by lifelong chronic illnesses (diabetes, autism, asthma, and epilepsy). The cause of these diseases is often vaccines. In addition, when the antibodies produced in response to childhood vaccines decrease over time, adults become susceptible to these diseases, which are often more severe than their childhood forms. Vaccines are dangerous drugs. Side effects include autoimmune reactions, depletion of immune system function, epilepsy, nervous system damage, and deaths. Become informed about the risks associated with vaccination, maintain a healthy immune system to prevent serious diseases, and use natural treatments to avoid the complications of childhood illness.
