New drug labels, which have been in development for years and are intended to improve consumer safety, went into effect on June 30, 2006. In typical FDA fashion, a program that should have helped patients has been twisted. The FDA took this opportunity to sneak disclaimer language on the new labels, seeking to prevent patients from suing pharmaceutical companies if a drug injures or kills."
