Diverticulitis

Just came down with a case of diverticulitis, with pain in the lower abdomen and tenderness in the affected region ( a burning sensation inside). After a visit to the gastroenterologist, he prescribed two Antibiotics ,namely Metronidazole y Levofloxacin, to kill microorganisms which, according to him have caused the infection with the described symptoms. He also recomended a CT Scan, followed at a later date by a Colonoscopy.

My question is : Do I need to do the Scan for this condition? I can understand the colonoscopy but the Scan does not make sense. Or does it?
