making alcohol

i want to buy these kits to make beer and wine so i dont consume the toxic junk from comercial stores,,,,PLEASE can any one warn me if i am waisting my money or if this is a good thing to do---by the way i live with 10 roomates as we are in university for 4 more years . and we just want the healthy alternitives and we are willing to do it our selves.
