titanium post for implant

Has anyone had an implant for a tooth. This is for a front top tooth. Both of my front top teeth are crowned. One of the teeth my dr. said that I should get a root canal. Of course I don't want to do that. Anyone know about the safety of the tooth implants? I also thought about a bridge but then I would have to get both of my front teeth pulled then have the bridge attached to the teeth that are beside the front. I am not sure what to do! Or is there away to just keep the infection away and not do anything?
