Ok hanna....

Ok hanna....I'm 58...and raised in the Ward and June Clever days...but I'll put
a little info here. :-)

I've never had Vulvitis...but I have had Lichen Sclerosis. They are very similar
but Lichen Sclerosis is Vulvitis times 100. (The doctor at Vanderbilt Hospital told
me this). He said women run to him all the time with a 'yeast infection' they
can't get rid of...but a woman who has had Lichen Sclerosis would laugh their head
off at a woman complaining of a bad yeast infection.

Vulvitis is inflammation of the Vulva. It can be caused by infections, bacterial,
viral, fungal...or medications, allergies to feminine sprays, detergents, bubble
baths, etc.

The symptoms could be swelling of the area, redness, itch, blisters that ooze,
white or thick skin, discharge, cracks, splits, etc.

It is diagnosed by pelvic exam, blood tests, urinalysis. It is 'said' that to
treat it...you must find the cause.

Lichen Sclerosis is similar in symptoms...but to the umpteenth degree. Absolutely
unbearable pain to the point a quick shower could send a woman into a crying fit.
It is diagnosed by biopsy. Can occur at any age, but is most common in women after
menopause. They said mine was due to a hormonal imbalance after my hysterectomy
in 1996. I had what the doctor at Vanderbilt said was the worst case he had ever
seen when I went to him in early 1997. He also said I had to be one of the strongest women he had seen because most women would have had to be hospitalized
in my condition. He said he would have me pain free within one month. It took
2 weeks...after 3 doctors in my area said it was incurable... all they could do
was give me something to keep my nerves calmed down...and I'd have to learn to live
with it.

What really irked me was that we came back home...and filled the prescription
he gave me at our own drug store and it cost $10. I had been in so much pain...I
was ready to die if I could not get my condition under control. Any of the 3
doctors here could have done the very same thing.
And yes...the cream is a steroid...I had to use it for one month...just a tiny bit..
and then just a teeny tiny bit...once a week... for the rest of my life.
I'm one of these people who thinks the best way to stay healthy is stay away from
doctors...but I tried ALL the natural things...and nothing helped whatsoever.
I tried many, many things...and continued to get worse.
Steroid creams are horrid...I know...I've studied natural healing since the late
1970's...but until you've spent one day...in the body of a woman with Lichen Sclerosis...don't knock what you would or would not do. I have a very high tolerance for pain. No one ever hears me complain of any pain...I just ignore it and go on with my day, if I have one...but you can't ignore the pain of Lichen Sclerosis.

p.s. I guess I 'mis-spoke' in the other email. I don't know that it's 'curable'...
but it is absoltely controllable. After having been there...I wouldn't take a chance on letting it come back to life for anything in this world. So I will
never stop that weekly treatment to play games with the devil.
