ulcers and fevers and a grumpy 6 year old!
Hello,
three days ago my six year old daughter fell ill with a fever. She complained of a sore throat and sick stomach, and on day two, she threw up a few times. She had also been complaining of a sore tooth for some days, and I initially thought that a tooth cutting through at the back was the reason for the illness. Yesterday however, I add a good root around with a torch to see what was going on in her mouth and I discovered that the swollen red patch around her new tooth had developed in to one giant mouth ulcer (or canker sore), and that about ten other ulcers had popped up on the right side of her mouth. Although her fever has lessened, she is now refusing to eat anything because of the pain. She is lethargic and her eyes are pink. With a lot of persuasion, I have (once!) managed to get her to do a salt mouth wash, and I have twice managed to apply raw honey to the ulcers. Every time the big ulcer is even slightly touched however, it seems to cause her intense pain and makes her cry.
Do you have any tips for getting a mouth ulcer ridden child to eat? I have tried offering her all varieties of soup, with spoons and straws, but not much is getting in. I am worried that she is now so low in energy, her body is too weak to effectively fight the infection.
Do you recognise this illness? Someone suggested to me that it might be a herpes related infection – could this be the case?
I am keen to treat her naturally if possible, and would like to know about any homeopathic or other possible natural cures. It may be important to know that the illness is accompanied by a foul and firey temper too! And my daughter also generally has a strong aversion to heat.
Thank you for your help – I look forward to any suggestions you have!
Tam.
