Actually, I was just checking in his book and found the following:

Pg150 - He says to watch your DMSA doses and not take too much. Paraphrasing, he says the frequency of adverse reactions on improper use is high and may cause permanent motor and psychiatric effects.

Pg75, point #4 - "Reasonable dosages are 50-300mg. Always test the chelators for side effects by ramping up the dosage from 25mg or 50mg the first time." It's not clear if he's talking about DMSA or DMPS at this point, though, but I think your starting off with a lower dose is probably a good idea.

Pg132 - "If you follow the standard 'alternative medicine' or 'witch doctor' protocol, e.g. DMSA every other day or DMPS injections monthly: you will get worse for 6 months to one year, then slowly get better for another several years - but behavioral and coordination problems are exacerbated by this therepy and emotional symptoms are not alleviated. There is also a substantial risk of psychiatric illness. Total time: a year of misery, 5 years to feel better, but you never will be completely well."

I think when you're starting out, it's probably a good idea to follow the protocol as closely as possible, for example taking your nightly doses. When I started out, I forced myself to take the mental attitude that my health was important enough to me to force myself to wake up in the middle of the night and take my dose. The resistance I got from myself about not wanting to wake up, I saw as "the mercury talking." I don't do night doses anymore, but I'm in a much better place now.
