Re: About the Motel and Shuttle...
I did make reservations ahead of time just in case there was a big convention or something in town that week. I would at least call a few days ahead of time. The shuttles leave -I think -around every half hour or so. The doctors are familiar with them so they will base your appointment time with that in mind. Also, this is Mexico, they aren't as punctual as we are used to, so if you're a few minutes late (or half an hour) it's no big deal. I always carry a small book in my purse just in case the doctor's late or if I need a distraction. The bus ride was maybe 15 minutes and they take you right to the door and even escort you in. When you're done the doctor calls for your ride back.
Afterwards, if you want to go walking around Tijuana they'll pick you up later in the afternoon. We did that one day when there was a childrens festival going on and it was great fun. Yes you go through the bus lane and it's pretty quick.
It helps to look at it as just a big adventure. More like a vacation or traveling, and the dentist is just a side trip. If you can schedule an extra day or two it's fun to look around San Diego. I lived there for a few years, it's a beautiful place. We went up to Julian and had apple pie one day, we had a wonderful breakfast at Rickys Restaurant, we ate at Cilantros (a raw restaurant in Chula Vista) we watched the sunset at La Jolla beach and wondered how much it would cost to live there.
Once it's all over you'll feel so relieved and from then on it's just watching all your symptoms go away, little by little.
Oh, here's one tip about husbands. All the talking in the world won't change their minds, no matter how right you are. They have to think it's their idea. Just lead by example. (Also, if you leave relevant articles or reports in the bathroom they'll read it and think it was their idea.) I don't know how many times I used to try to convince him of something, only to find when I gave up he'd bring it up weeks later like he just thought of it himself. They're quirky like that. Sometimes I think they're forty percent muscle and sixty percent ego.
