Why do my gums hurt SO much??

Does anyone know why all of a sudden out of nowhere my gums kill when I try to brush my teeth?? I started using a Sonicare about a month ago...and it's been fine till a few days ago. I've upped my dosage of Primal Defense. I don't know what it could be, and what I can do. But it's really hard to brush my teeth without touching my gums at all...eating is fine, everything else is fine except brushing!
