Re: Question for Meire
Hi Surley,
I tried a few over the counter creams with HQ and a salon preparation - the latter whitened the skin surrounding the pigmentation but not the blotches themselves, leaving them standing out even more! I've not come across anything or heard of anything that works long term. I heard of some people having some success with Rosehip oil applied directly to the area, but the fading was limited.
A lot of people develop melasma during pregnancy - copper levels rise dramatically during pregnancy by the way. I've read a few times that candida can be present a lot of times where there's hyperpigmentation, not sure why. If you've used
Antibiotics and not done anything about getting your gut flora back to normal that might be something to look into.
The foods high in copper, I wouldn't see as the main problem, unless you were consuming a lot of them - the other things I mentioned especially medication, cigarettes and alcohol, I believe to have made a bigger difference. Medication of any kind will leave residue in the liver, and medications seem to deplete zinc (thus raising copper), as well as many other nutrients. Maybe add zinc to what you're already doing and see what happens - in my opinion it was the zinc that made most of the difference. Between the hormones, medication residue, excess copper etc. the liver is bound to become clogged, and MSM, zinc and vitamin C all support and help to cleanse it.
I just thought of one more thing - I've seen on a few different websites that some people use castor oil directly applied to melasma, and also liver spots - I haven't tried it but it might be worth a shot.
Good luck & take care,
Mel
