Goldfish, parrot, dog, cat, hamster, etc.. Just pick one and do it. Make yourself do it. Even if you are living in a situation where it is forbidden. (No one will know if you have a sea monkey or two.)

My dog is my very best friend. He is a little guy and a mutt, but we eat, sleep and do stuff together. I talk to him all the time and he doesn't mind.

Your pet doesn't care if your hair is done or if you have shaved what have you.
