Kindness at the Superbowl?
hi,
sometimes 2 am is the best time to watch TV. i saw this piece about mike holmgren who is the coach of the seattle seahawks who will be playing in the super bowl this sunday.
mike's wife is a nurse and his daughter a doctor. they had a chance to go on a medical mission to africa, where they would donate their time to train medical professionals there. mike bought them airline tickets and fully supported them even though it would conflcit with the super bowl. of course this was early in the season, and at that time no one in the world gave that team a chance to get to the superbowl. so they prepared and attended their meetings and now they are on their way, they will be listening to their husbands/dads most important game on the sattelite phone.
now i am not one of those "jesus helped me hit the home run" type of guys. like god is up in heaven spending his time figuring out who is going to score touchdowns and hit home runs. but somehow this struck me. this family is giving (this is not their first medical mission and won't be their last) so much to people, and fate, or the universe, of God, or whatever is smiling on them. like "give and you shall recieve" kind of thing. it made me feel good about them, like someone in professional sports is about more than just the money and fame. now i even have someone to cheer for in the super bowl because before that i couldn't have cared less!!
