Re: Just a thought or two

"As you have probably noticed your time stamp system is not working to well. The page listing the forums will have the last message as being posted 4 hrs ago, then when you go to the page the last post is listed 25 min ago. "

This problem apears because we are now cashing forum pages and message threads.
Yahoo is a commercial web site and they have enough money to keep their pages constantly updated.

We had to choose cashing in order to decrease the load on server, and to enable larger number of people to access forums ...

Problem with page cashing is that dates does not get updated until someone posts a new message ....

"Also when a message is posted it might be for a page that has been archived already instead of the current forum page. This is confusing with all the different times noted behind each message posted."

New messages are only posted as a reply to an existing message. Posting new threads in Archived forums is OFF.
We feel that people should be free to reply to some older message, even if that message is 10 months or 10 years old ...

"On the Yahoo message boards, when you post a message, it goes to the top of that particular forum regardless of where the original message that you were replying to was. If you want to peruse the original message there is a link at the bottom of every message that will take you there. Likewise if you want to peruse the whole thread, there is a link that shows all the message links."

We are free to decide if want a message to be shown at the top of each thread, instead of showing messages "inside" thread.

There ares pros and cons of both aproaches.

Most threads are short and it doeasn't matter where message is.
Also, for new users, it is easier to understand that one message is a part of some thread, when that message is shown inside of that thread.

Really, it wouldn't take longer then 5 sec to change that, but we are not convinced that showing each message at the top of each thread is any better then showing it inside the thread.

I guess, decision must be made by more then one person ...

Thanks for your suggestions!
