Studying herbs and herbal medicines

Apart from personal health benefits through Liver Flushing that I learnt on this site, I have developed interest in studying herbal medicine and more symptomatic subjective diagnosis of ailments - not the allopathic theories.

I have for years been working with programming and mathematics, but never given a damn about medicine. Thanks to curezone, I am now seriously toying with the idea of a more full time study, perhaps even a change of life.

I am already looking around in India (where I live) which has its own rich systems, but I believe that every culture and tradition carries
its own body of knowledge.

Any ideas, tips, suggestions on how to go about it???
