Re: White rice nutritious?

Basmati white rice is more nutritious than Jasmine (traditional Asian rice). Brown rices are more nutritious still, but the short grains like California brown rice can be very very constipating.

Rice is mostly a ballast for the much more nutritous foods that go with it. If you need to eat 2,000 calories plus to meet your caloric needs, it helps to include rice. It's tough to get enough calories from veggies and fruit alone! :)

If you fix rice with broth instead of water, and add in beans so that you have a 3 to 1 ratio of rice to beans, stir fry some veggies and maybe add slice of chicken or fish, then you have perfect protein and have turned a very cheap meal into something just as tasty and even more nutritious than a steak! :)
