Dangerous Chinese Herbs - please be aware! :)
Not all herbs and herbal remedies are created equal. Unfortunately, some herbs have been found to contain an alkaloid, Aristolochic Acid, which is a known carcinogin (cancer causing) and is renaltoxic - which means it will destroy your kidneys. Below is a partial list of herbs to avoid:
Aristolochia spp., Asarum spp., Bragantia spp., Stephania spp., Clematis spp., Akebia spp., Cocculus spp., Diploclisia spp., Menispernum spp., Sinomenium spp., Mu tong, Fang ji, Guang fang ji, Fang chi, Kan-Mokutsu (Japanese), and Mokutsu (Japanese).
This is a serious issue and has sparked recalls of various products like "Quell Fire Tablets" and "Meridian Circulation Tablets" in Canada, the US, Europe, Britain, China and Japan.
